During winter break, I caught up on watching a lot of movies. Here are some cute, cute mini-reviews on them.

The end of the semester is creeping nearer, but all I've been doing is slacking off. Gwah!!

On the bright (?) side, I've been catching up on Bollywood movies. I don't plan on writing full-blown reviews right now, but I can say that 2009 has churned out some pretty decent movies.

Eh, on second thought, I might write a few reviews in the future. For now, I'll just give some short-short ratings:

Other movies I'll be watching: Wanted, Main Aur Mrs. Khanna, Dil Bole Hadippa, Do Knot Disturb, Rocket Singh, 3 Idiots

Eh, so I translated another Bollywood song. This time, it's the female version of Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai. This is much shorter than the original song; I think I like the original better. Still, it's pretty nice.

Shreya Ghoshal is a pretty good singer; not my favorite current singer, but not too bad either. I think she did a nice job singing this song.

UPDATE (4/8/09): Added the transliteration along with the lyrics translation. Enjoy...?

It's like a response to the original version, lyrics-wise. )

This song is the title song for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, a not-so-impressive movie. But the song rocks, I swear. I'm not a big fan of romantic songs, but this song is so heartwarming, especially with its simplicity.

Sukhwinder Singh is not one of my favorite singers, but this song and Haule Haule make me see him a new light. If I had to rate this song, I would give it a full 10/10. So apparently Roop Kumar Rathod (man this name makes me think of a certain sleazy Rajasthani cop *cough*) is the singer. I guess if you listen to the song closely,, you can easily tell it's not Sukhwinder Singh's voice. Thank God too - you can really only digest so much of Sukhwinder Singh, at least before your ears go out on you...

UPDATE (4/19/09): Full transliteration up. Any edits after this will probably be just translation corrections and whatnot.

UPDATE (2/26/10): Changed singer's info.

Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai from Rab Ne Bana Di Ghod- I mean, Jodi )

And while I know this is my LJ and all, would anyone like to see more of these? Next up on my list is probably the female version of this song and Haule Haule. Think I might write up a longer review of the movie too.

Gah, I don't want to lose my precious Hindi skills, dammit!!

Yeah, I saw Billu last night with my mom. I'm not going to do a full-blown review since I doubt anyone will be interested in it, but I might as well write a blurb or two on the movie.

Billu Bayankar~ Billu Bayankar~~!! )

Oh yeah, already mentioned this on Twitter, but... HOW IN THE FUCK did Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi manage to do better in the US box office than Fashion and Delhi 6?!?! I haven't seen the latter, but Fashion is totally 1000x better than that lame excuse of a movie. Grah, are people on happy crack these days or what?

Happy New Year, everyone. Hope your 2009 is going well.

I had a bit of a movie marathon this week. Besides Yes Man, I saw a couple new recent Bollywood movies, which is rare of me to do. The lucky four were Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Fashion, Dostana!, and Ghajini.

I found out about another Krishna story animation adaption.

It apparently aired on CN India. My mom actually ordered it for me as a gift, and it came in the mail a few hours ago. I haven't watched it, but the DVD's cover art is cute! I think the Hanuman character designs are much more cuter, but at least these aren't as creepy as that one 3D animated Krishna movie. So yeah, it's 2D animation, so more kudos to the makers behind the animation! I haven't watched it yet, but I'm planning to later on tonight (or tomorrow).

There seriously needs to be a Ganesh movie now! An Akbar and Bilbar animation flick would rock too, but I'm sure that's out of the question, for it isn't a story about deities or anything. I could always dream about it, right?

UPDATE (11:04 PM): Hm, a possibility for an animated Ganesh movie. It won't be out till 2007, but if they're really going to make one, I can wait!

HAH!
I knew a Krishna movie would be made someday.

I'm assuming the success of Hanuman (one of the first mainstream animated Hindi movies to be released) was the reason for Krishna. And here I was thinking Kisna was the closest thing Bollywood/Hindi cinema offered (the main male protagonist did parallel Krishna in morals and whatnot, but the movie definitely wasn't a direct adaptation of his story).

The 3D animation creeps me out a bit. The character designs are nice and all, but it's relatively different from what you typically see in Hindi animation (a very niche market that's not going to change for a while). Anyhow, I wouldn't mind giving the movie a try when I get a copy for ~$2.

More ramblings - rants are minimal here. )

Once the semester's over, I'm going to watching Jaan-e-maan, Faana, and Water. I'm actually a bit skeptical about the first one, but I did get my copy for a mere $2. The latter should be interesting, since it's one of those movies that isn't in the mainstream (for some reason, those kinds of movies are more entertaining than more popular stuff).
